Howdy Streamers!
Kudos
to all Christmas Ralliers; you set a new THLU record for funds received
at the auction! That allowed our club to make four-figure
donations to both Ronald McDonald House in Austin and families in the
Rockport-Fulton area who were hit hardest by Hurricane Harvey. Our
generosity was much appreciated by the recipients, and both offered to
take our members on a tour to get an inside look at the difference
donations such as ours make.
Cheri
and I were glad to hear so many of you enjoyed the Christmas Rally, and
we really appreciate the thankful words and notes we
received. Phil, Peggy, Richard, and Janet thanks for your hosting
help. John and Shirley thanks for making the auction
great. Kathy and Stephen thanks for the wonderful
music. Marty, Stephen, and Jean thanks for handling the funds so
capably. Thanks to all of you who attended the business meeting; we
had spirited debate, sign of a passionate and healthy club. A name
represents identity and personal history; both to be treated with
respect and honor.
As
voted on by our members at the Rally concerning our club name, I’ll
soon prepare written survey communications to present to a committee for
their comments and revisions, then submit that written survey to Debbie
to send out to all our members via constant contact for your
feedback. That survey will include some background research I’ve
done since our Rally regarding WBCCI units throughout America. Stay
tuned……and continue to provide your valued input.
Our
Big Bend Unit Caravan (BIBE) is just around the corner. We’re
looking forward to some beautiful weather, gorgeous skies, and making
many awesome memories. Hosts for our March (Athens), April
(Cherokee), and May (Kerrville) Rallies have been visiting our rally
locations and putting their thoughts together to make those rallies fun
and enjoyable. More information on each will be forthcoming soon
through constant contact. Please note the change in location for
the May Rally from New Braunfels to Kerrville.
We’re
still looking for hosts for our September (Galveston) and October
(Rockport) Rallies. Please consider calling a THLU friend or two
and teaming up to volunteer to host; it really is a pleasure. Cheri
and I have pulled together information for potential activities at both
locations for our hosts. A special thanks to Tom and Valerie
Steinhagen for recently visiting Jamaica Beach RV Park, our Galveston
rally site. Tom’s report and photos of the park were very great.
While
I’m asking for volunteers, our club still needs a 2nd Vice
President. The 2nd VP would serve as President in calendar year
2020. When Cheri and I joined, we never imagined serving the club
in this capacity. I can tell you though it’s been a joy and a light
burden because of the help and aid generously provided by previous
officers. Their experience and knowledge of the past makes the
present pleasant and future stress free. Call any officer to
volunteer; THLU needs you!
Both
Cheri and I hope you had a wonderful Christmas, and our hope is that
2018 is one of your best years ever! We look forward to making some
great memories with you……..
Ed

Our
Christmas Auction raised $3,598.00. We disbursed 60% of that
total, or $2,158.80, evenly between the Ronald McDonald House and the
Rockport-Fulton Chamber of Commerce. The 40% remaining, or
$1,439.20, was deposited into our club account.
In addition, six membership dues have been paid since the Christmas Rally.

It
was such a pleasure to meet your wife, Cheri, when she dropped of the
donation from the Texas Highland Lakes Unit December Rally that
benefited Ronald McDonald House Charities of Central Texas and our
families. We are so grateful for your support of our work.
Please
let me know if anyone from your group is ever interested in getting a
tour of the House, I'd love to show you first hand the impact your
donations have on our day to day operations.
With gratitude,
NICOLE GENOVESE
Development Manager

Here’s
a photo of Cheri delivering THLU’s donation to Diane Probst, the
President and CEO of the Rockport-Fulton Chamber of Commerce.
Diane
told Cheri that when we have our October Rally in Rockport that our
group should plan on visiting her and she would provide a presentation
about Hurricane Harvey’s impact and the community’s recovery

Big Bend Unit Caravan
January 30 - February 11
Forty
of us will be taking 21 Airstream rigs to West Texas and Big Bend
National Park (BIBE) for a 2-week Unit Caravan. We'll be staying at
South Llano River and Davis Mountains State Parks in West Texas, as well
as Study Butte/Terlingua and Rio Grande Village in BIBE. Food,
fellowship, hiking, horseback riding, jeep tours, and river rafting are
planned. The weather should be great, the stars will be beautiful, and
the uniqueness of this area of Texas is expected to inspire awe and
wonder! Thanks to Dennis Carroll, a BIBE Caravaner, for the photo below.
These are the night views we can expect!

- Harvey & Gail and Jack & Jill, too: We had a great Christmas in Santa Fe and met Airstream friends: Carlos & Rosemary and Wendy & Tammy. Vanessie’s
for great food and, of course. Doug Montgomery on the piano. This
was the first time Carlos & Rosemary had been to Santa Fe during
Christmas and also was a first for them to go to Vanessie’s. We are
departing Ruidoso the end of January and looking forward to the Big
Bend Caravan. After the Caravan, we head to Hillsboro where
construction is scheduled to begin on our new carport addition to our Villa at NTAC around February 20.
- Darel and Marve will become first time grandparents this spring! Daughter Summer and her husband, Jesi, are expecting in May!
- Ed and Cheri: We're looking
forward to a great time with our THLU friends on the upcoming Big Bend
Unit Caravan, as well as at the Rally in Athens! Our plans are
progressing on our home in Anacortes, Washington this spring, with an
expected finish by early fall. Beginning in 2019, we'll spend our
summers in WA and our winters in TX. Our home in Texas will be
listed this month. We're beginning the hunt for another Airstream, with the idea of having one in WA at our home and the other in covered storage in TX. We're expecting our sixth grandchild in June! Yeah!
- Peter and Carol: Carol and I purchased a new Classic 30’ from Camper Clinic scheduled for delivery in late March. We will need to sell our 2013, 25’ RB Twin Flying Cloud with ProPride hitch for $35,000.00. Without the hitch the same new trailer is $84,400.
- Gene and Kathy left on a cruise out of Galveston on Friday, January 12th. It's a five day cruise on the Royal Caribbean ship, Vision of the Seas, with stops in Mexico, including Cozumel. This will be a relaxing trip following a busy holiday season with family! Happy New Year, all!
- Harry and Debi Jean enjoyed the Airstream party at Matagorda for New Years.
The weather there was great and so was the food. We are currently
bottle feeding a baby calf so we are not able to get away for a few
months. This is the time of year we have to haul and feed lots of hay. We plan to see you all on a couple of rallies this year.
- Steve and Ginger: This year we purchased a villa at NTAC to store our
trailer. We liked NTAC so much we went back and purchased a
empty lot. Now we are in the process of having plans drawn-up to build a villa on the empty lot. We have made some new changes to the trailer in preparation for our trip to Salem, OR and then caravan thru Alaska. On December 29th Steve retired from Exxon Mobil after 38 years. He said "I love it, everyday is Saturday".
- Willard and Linda Fischer have recently bought a house at NTAC in Hillsboro.
- The Blakey’s, Mooney’s, Findlay’s, Sheridan’s, and Dennis Carroll were added to the Big Bend Caravan after Caravan leaders decided to open it up to all on the waiting list!
- Rick and i enjoyed a week of warmer temperatures at LaFeria last week. Rick built a new well house and I cooked some tasty collard greens from our garden.
- Marty and Cindy's son, daughter-in-law and two granddaughters moved to Texas after living in Maine for many years. They are so excited to have them living in Austin.
- Mike and Betty also just purchased a new 2018 Airstream 30 foot Classic from
Foley's in Gulfport, MS. We will take delivery in approximately
three weeks once the solar panels are delivered and installed and the
trailer prepped. We should have the new rig before the March Rally
and before we go cruising out of Ft. Lauderdale to the Eastern Caribbean on 2/11. We have our 2014 Airstream 27 foot FC FB Twin for sale for $45,000. This
price includes an Equalizer hitch and one 100 watt solar panel and
controller. This unit came with both a microwave and a propane oven
and two TV's. The 2014 can be viewed locally in Georgetown up until we
pull it to Foley's in Gulfport where it will be put on
consignment. We can be reached at 512-869-7615 or via e-mail at meangreenalum@aol.com.
