Cinda and Stanley Brooks on the River Road
|
|
FEBRUARY kicked of the THLU rally schedule for 2017. Brazos Bend State Park was our choice and it turned out great! I guess we can have great weather for a February rally. No cold fronts, comfortable temperatures and no rain. Everyone was able to get out and enjoy the park.
After Sunday's devotional we headed west toward BIG BEND NATIONAL PARK, a.k.a., BIBE. We traveled with the Partens and Flemings. Sunday night was spent in Bracketville, between Uvalde and Del Rio. Good RV park and a fantastic museum: The Historic Ft. Clark Army Base.
Next on Monday we traveled to Marathon. We looked at the hotel rooms at the Gage and "dined in style "at the restaurant for Valentine's Day.
Staying at Marathon allowed us to get to the Rio Grande Village Campground at BIBE before noon. Cinda and Stanley Brooks joined us there. - Highlights at BIBE: Seeing the sunset on the Sierra Del Carmens, Lunch across the river in Boquillas, Hikes to Boquillas Canyon, the Hot Springs, Ernest Tinaja, Santa Elena Canyon and driving Old Maverick Road and of course, dinner at The Starlight Theater in Terlinqua. Big Bend National Park is such a treasure.
Our last place to visit was DAVIS MOUNTAINS STATE PARK. We attended the COWBOY POETRY Event at Sul Ross University in ALPINE. This is an annual event that celebrates the real cowboys' poetry, storytelling and music over two days. All the sessions are free, wih the exception of two music concerts. Tickets to those events are only $10 each! What a great place for a rally, despite the driving distance. In 2018, Cowboy Poetry is March 1 - 3. NOW IT IS MARCH and we are getting ready to attend our first REGION 9 RALLY. Many of our members are doing seminars: Myron Fischer, Jimmy Mooney, Jean Beebe, John Irwin, John Tetzlaff, Cinda Brooks and us. Hope to see you there! Debbie (mostly) and I completed the Application for the Superior Merit Award for THLU. Thanks to those of you that helped with the information. DIRECTORIES (HARD COPIES): They are at the printers and hopefully will be available at the Region 9 Rally.

Volunteers Needed for 2018
|
We have several openings for the Executive Board and some committees. The nominees will be approved at the May Business Meeting in Concan, TX.
Debbie and I have never been part of an active club until THLU. We just did not see ourselves as club members, much less serving in positions. However, we never realized how much it would make us feel more a part of the group. It has enabled us to get to know the great people that make this unit "one of the best."
No experience is needed. Past officers and chairs are willing to help you learn.
Helen Keller's quote sums it up:
|
|
Position Descriptions
Membership Chair: - Be the Unit/Club contact for prospective new members and explain the purpose and objectives of the Wally Byam Caravan Club International.
- Extend invitations by email and a personal phone call to prospective members for WBCCI and our club to attend a rally or meeting. A monthly list of new Airstream owner comes from the Nation
- Lastly, you submit a very brief report for the Fall and Spring business meeting. Past chairs are available to help.
- Plus, all of this can be done from the comfort of your home or Airstream.
Caravan Chair: - To plan, organize, and obtain leaders for Unit caravans that are operated or conducted for the Unit within the scope of the WBCCI Caravan Handbook.
- To develop an aggressive Unit Caravan program and to coordinate Unit caravan matters with appropriate Region and International Caravan Committee personnel. Harvey Craig, the past chair is ready to assist you.
- Submit a report at the Fall and Spring business meeting.
- If you have a flexible schedule (retired or can set your hours at your job), enjoy traveling and new adventures, please volunteer. You may contact Harvey at eharv@msn.com or at 512-633-0380 for more specifics.
2 year trustees: - Attend all meetings of the Unit and Executive Board
The Executive Board shall be the administrative body of the Unit and shall define the policies of and have full administrative authority in all maters pertaining to the Unit, and shall exercise general control and supervision of all officers and committees. The President or any two members of the Board may call a business meeting of the Executive Board at any time deemed necessary. - Accept special assignments as directed by the President.
- Prepare the Installation Rally Reception each November
- Approve expenditures for the Installation.
- Expenditure on capital investment up to $500.00 must be approved by a majority of the Executive Board. (11/2016)
Treasurer:
- Maintains the financial records of the Unit
- Receive all monies, and promptly deposits them in the bank
- Handles the bookkeeping, writes checks, collects rally fees, files with the IRS.
- Sends $50 memorials for deceased members
- Notifies members of expiration of dues and issue receipts for dues paid
- Submits a full written report of finances to the Executive Board at each unit meeting (usually 2 per year)
- Prepare the books and
accounts for audit by a committee selected by the incoming President in November.
- For the installation ceremony provide the:
- Plaque for the outgoing President;
- Past President Flag and Decal
- New badges for Past President & First Lady Updated badges for incoming Officers and Trustees.
I have selected a nominating committee to help in the search for positions for 2018. The members include Jimmy & Marque Mooney, along with Cinda Brooks. They will be contacting members to volunteer for positions. Finally, if you want to put your name in the hat, please contact Cinda, Jimmy, Marque or Rick.

Peter Sajovich changed the format:
At the last luncheon I received a suggestion and I think it’s a good one. Let’s have happy hour from 11:30 - 12:00 and then the lunch from 12:15 - 1:15. That way everyone gets to meet and talk to everyone before we all sit down and are limited to talking to just a few people. Great!

- Unfortunately, the park does not allow tents.
- Everyone DO NOT reserve a site with the RV park. You will only need to register with our club. Your site will be assigned upon your arrival at the RV park.
- For guests that are staying with you in your RV include them in the # of campers so the hosts can plan accordingly.
- Families and Friends in their own RVs must register with THLU under their names so they get an RV site. As a member, you can register your guests since you are familiar with the process or they can do it.
- Here is the link: http://tinyurl.com/hzj2j9r
