June- August 2016
President's Message

Hello THLU!

The summer travel season is here!  However, Airstreamers travel all the time, right?   It's just that summer travel usually means longer trips.

Our May rally on Galveston Island was lots of fun.  We had a “No Host” rally, which made the weekend very relaxing.   We had the best weather ever!   I think having the potluck midday on Saturday worked well as it allowed time to see more of Galveston in the evening.  Also, a big thanks to the owners, Chris Grant and Rusty Walla, who went out of their way to make our stay enjoyable.  Currently, we plan to have the installation rally the end of October 26 - 29, 2017 there.

Thanks to all of you that responded to our request for your summer travel plans and we will be sending your plans along in an email.

Our travels take us to South Texas, later this month, where we split our time between playing at South Padre Island with friends and taking care of our place in La Feria.   We will then leave for Michigan to volunteer again at Sleeping Bear Dunes National Lakeshore near Glen Arbor, Michigan from mid July to mid September.  We have recruited our Big Bend volunteer friends to join us so it should be like “old home week.”

Also, I want all to know how much Debbie has done to make this leadership transition smoother for me.  She has spent untold hours learning and creating our communication system for THLU.  I hope she knows how much I appreciate her!

Debbie and I wish all of you safe and exciting travels.  Look for our next newsletter in September.

Party Line & Prayers/Concerns

Congratulations to Andy and Barb Selking on the birth of their first grandson, Andrew Mark Selking, III (aka Tripp).

Judy Hazen is recovering from partial knee replacement surgery and is making good progress. Judy says that  Fred is a very attentive nurse.   Fred Hazen had a pacemaker inserted just before Judy's surgery.  He is feeling  well and back to his old self.

C.C. Gartman recently had a stent inserted.  He is doing well.

Gail Craig is returning home after recent double hernia surgery.   We wish her a speedy recovery.

Please send prayer concerns and blessings to Keith Ferry at ferry_keith@hotmail.com to include in the newsletter.

November Installation Rally ~ NTAC  Hillsboro, TX ~ November 3-6, 2016
The rally will be held on Thursday, November 3 through Sunday, November 6 at NTAC in Hillsboro, TX.  You may arrive early on Wednesday because the sites are reserved starting on Wednesday.

The first email about the rally was sent out on May 12, 2016.  Please let us know, if you did not receive it.  Be sure to include your email address.

Jim and Janie Haddaway and other NTAC residents will be hosting our rally.   A big thanks to them! The Haddaways will be traveling this summer so the rally event schedule will be sent out in the Fall, closer to the rally date.

Reminder:   After registering with the club, you must reserve your own site at NTAC.  NTAC residents need to register with THLU only, of course.

The closing date for registration with the club and reserving your campsite is October 25, 2016.

Contact Rick if you have any questions about the event or how to register.   If you prefer to register by phone, call Rick Trimble at 214-298-1009.

Christmas Rally & Auction ~ Leisure Resort, Fentress, TX ~ Dec. 1-4, 2016
This year's Christmas Rally & Auction will be held on Thursday, Dec. 1 through Sunday, Dec. 4 at Leisure Resort on the San Marcos River in Fentress, TX.  That weekend we will be able to enjoy the local "Sights and Sounds of Christmas" festivities which include carnival rides, arts & crafts, pictures with Santa, local school performances, a live Nativity scene and a food court.

Rally hosts are Stanley & Cinda Brooks, John & Sherry Parten, Gene & Kathy Blanchard, Ed & Cheri Addicks and Rick & Debbie Trimble.   Windy Fleming will be Santa.   Shirley Fleming  will be an elf.   Jim Latham will be the auctioneer.  Thanks for volunteering.   Santa needs at least 2 more elves to help with the auction.    To help with the auction, contact Rick Trimble at ricktrimble17@gmail.com or 214-298-1009.

Exciting News:  On May 16 we had 30 rigs registered with the club for the rally!  18 rigs had made their reservation at Leisure Resorts.   The phone number is 512-213-0112.   Be sure to let them know you are with THLU.   You will have to pay a deposit of $43 to reserve your site.   The deadline for reservations with Leisure Resorts is September 1, 2016.

February Rally 2017 at Brazos Bend State Park:  You may reserve your campsite with the park now.   They fill up fast in the winter.   More information coming soon through email.

Change for May Rally 2017
The May rally will be by the cooling waters of the Frio River in Concan, Texas at Parkview Riverside RV Park from Thursday, May 18 - 21.   You may arrive on Wednesday, if you like.  These dates do not conflict with Mother’s Day in 2017.  It is the weekend before  Memorial Day so we will be there before the summer crowds invade.
The 48th Annual Region 9 Rally, "Airstream Aloha" will be held March 20-26, 2017 at Mitchell RV Park located in Perrin, TX.  Activities include entertainment, seminars, games, a flea market, theme days and door prizes.  There will be a crazy beach hat contest too!   Rally parking fees include six (6) nights of 30/50 Amp electric, water, sewer and WIFI.   Rally fees include 2 breakfasts and 3 dinners.  Early registration discounts are available through September 30.  For registration information, contact Grady Ferry at pizzacat@sbcglobal.net or phone 713-825-9586.

May Community Service Project
Our Community Service Project for our May rally was St. Vincent's Episcopal House in Galveston.  This is truly "an oasis of Hope, Expecting Miracles."  They serve the disadvantaged, under-served, and working poor population in the Galveston community.  Their list of services is huge.  They partner with several other non-profits  to provide small grants to individuals and families in crisis, transportation to appointments, hot meals to the elderly and disabled and sack lunches for the homeless among many other services.  Their facility houses a small Food Pantry, Peace Chapel, a pre-school,and a medical / dental / eye clinic  which is staffed by medical students from UTMB.  In addition they have education classes as well as prevention and wellness classes. John and I were so impressed with this amazingly comforting and cheerful facility.  And the staff / volunteers that we met were such warm and caring people.   They truly value the people they serve. They are truly angels.    Many thanks to Angela for taking the time to give us a tour of this wonderful place.    And many thanks to our members who donated food or money for this wonderful group.

Constant Contact for Gmail Users
Gmail recently  created a promotions tab to filter bulk mailings like Constant Contact.   As a result, emails and events, etc from Constant Contact go to a promotions mailbox instead of your PRIMARY or INBOX.  Some of you may have figured this out but I wanted to share this with you in hope that you will get our communications.   From what I have figured out, you can delete the promotions tab (then all bulk emails will land in your PRIMARY or INBOX).   Also, you can STAR the email so future emails from CC go into the PRIMARY INBOX or Click and drag the email to the PRIMARY Inbox.   Here is the link that explains about the tabs:   https://support.google.com/mail/answer/3055016?hl=en.      Call Debbie Trimble for more information at  972-422-5133.
